about.

I am Devian Maside León. I am a Spanish-born, UK-trained, multidisciplinary queer theatremaker. I aim to reclaim space through art creation, to empower individuals to tell the stories that have been hidden under lack of representation.

On theme... pero reintrepetándolo

This project sparks from the desire to investigate the shared connection between trans and migrant experiences as examples of bodies that inhabit the ‘in-between’. Trans people are aware, through their lived experience at the edges of society, of the embodiment of the space in-between normative understanding of gender identity. Migrants, as a community, share the same experience of in-betweenness as there is a constant meditation of identity (personal, national and in the intricate ways of how both inform each other) for displaced bodies.

Through the in-depth exploration of flamenco as an integral part of my experience as a trans Spanish migrant, and verbatim as a way of exploring the power of intimacy in queer spaces, I aim to create a piece that will become a safe space for those who have longing to see themselves centre stage.
