'la religión es una chochez de viejas que disecan al gato antes de que se muera'
'Luces de Bohemia' was a play I made in collaboration with the Spanish Society of the University of Edinburgh (UoE) and the Spanish Department of the UoE. We also had the support and help of the Spanish Consulate in Edinburgh. The uniqueness of the play relied on that it was a collaborative project between a creative team: Reyes Rodriguez, an experienced actress who focused on being an actress coach; Aitana Garcia, scenographer and me, as director.
The play was Spanish-spoken, yet the cast was composed of native and non-native Spanish speakers. The idea we aimed to convey was that of the ambiguity and nuances of Spain. Through a play that focused on the decadence of the country, we wanted to portray how that can still be relevant today. Most importantly, how the Spanish people continue to find beauty and art in those filthy alleys that our ruling class tend to put us on. 'Luces de Bohemia' is a mock of the Spanish character, but it is also a love poem. A complicated dichotomy that we brought to the stage in March 2019.
